Creating A Crossroad With Sidewalks
« on: March 03, 2014, 03:42:59 PM »
Refer to the series of screenshots below:

Step 1 Place a section of path with sidewalks

Step 2 Continue with another section without sidewalks as wide as you want the crossroad to be.

Step 3 Continue with another section with sidewalks

Step 4 Create a separate section of path with sidewalks and after rotating it, place it on one side of the section without sidewalks (I prefer to disable snap to grid her to get a more precise plcement so that the node with the arrows are in the center of the no-sidewalk section and just touching it)

Step 5 Using the Path properties road size, adjust the width until the sidewalks look ok.

Steps 6 & 7 Just repeat Steps 4 & 5 on the opposite side

And here is your crossroad with sidewalks.

I've been trying to do this, but couldn't figure it out.  Thanks for these step by step instructions.  This will really help!

Great job. The only problem I see with this method is that you have to very strategically plan where intersections are going to be based on where you think the rides should go.

What about a T-Intersection Pathway? See this is why I'm not liking this pathing system, it's really tedious just to make intersections, it needs to be more simplified with these options as advanced.

I have made a suggestion that you can have a choice of sidewalks to use, right, left, both. For just that reason to make a T intersection.

There is also another suggestion to have the game engine recognise intersections, but we'll have to wait if the developers have the time to implement that.

I think that it would just be easier to turn the sidewalks on or off.

Easier for the developers, not easier for the user. ;) (making 5 paths and getting them aligned vs making 2 paths just crossing eachother)
I think the best option would be to have the game make the intersection into a seperate node automaticly*. This will propably be needed for pathfinding anyway.

*So as a user you just make two paths crossing eachother and the result will be what abletudu has made with his tutorial on how to make a crossing with sidewalks.

What about the sidewalks, you would have to have the program recognize any type of crossing in any of 360 degrees. I think that this would cause extra lag. besides, if the choice is given to decide which sidewalks you could turn off it would be easier.

I just had an idea of possibly an easier way to create the 4 cornered intersection, but I want to try it out before I say any more.

I've actually raised an issue in MantisHub regarding this - I've suggested making sidewalks behave like fences, where you can select one or both sides  :)

I had already suggested that 2 days ago.
